It is the buyer’s responsibility to verify the registration status and comply with California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) regulations. Per California Vehicle Code, the buyer is responsible for any outstanding registration fees, penalties, or other costs owed to the DMV. Buyers are encouraged to check the registration status before bidding.
Vehicle Information & Buyer Responsibility
- Condition & Damage: See images for details on any known damages or defects.
- Battery, Tires, and Running Condition: The condition of the battery, tires, and overall mechanical condition of the vehicle is not guaranteed. The tires may be flat, and the battery may be dead. Please come prepared with the necessary tools or equipment to safely remove the vehicle in a timely manner. Having the vehicle towed is the preferred method.
Out-of-State Buyers
All out-of-state buyers are strongly encouraged to research their state’s vehicle registration laws before purchasing.
California DMV Regulations
- All past-due and incurred registration fees are the responsibility of the buyer.
- The buyer must register the vehicle in their name within five (5) days of purchase (Vehicle Code VC5602 & VC5900).
- The buyer is responsible for all repairs, costs, and smog compliance.
Sale Terms & Conditions
- Vehicle sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS. No warranties, guarantees, or representations of any kind.
- All sales are final. No refunds will be given for any reason.
- The seller is not responsible for any errors or omissions in the listing. Buyers must inspect the vehicle before purchasing.

Taxes & Pickup
- Sales tax will be added to the winning bid unless the buyer provides a valid California reseller's permit.
- Pickup is by appointment only, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The exact address will be provided after payment is received.
- Special pickup arrangements outside business hours may be considered with prior approval.
- Buyers must be prepared to transport larger items and handle vehicle removal promptly.
Auction & Bidding Rules
- READ ALL TERMS & CONDITIONS BEFORE BIDDING.
- Defaulting bidders may face permanent suspension from future auctions.
- Bidding is a legal contract. Only place a bid if you are serious about purchasing.
- Every effort has been made to describe the vehicle accurately. However, no additional historical records or guarantees regarding condition or fitness are provided.
- Vehicles may have undisclosed deficiencies beyond those listed. Buyers assume all risks.
- All items have a reserve amount. If the reserve is not met, the item may be reposted.
- The vehicle has not been inspected by a certified mechanic. It is strongly recommended that the buyer inspects the vehicle before attempting to drive it.
County Employee Restrictions
County employees shall not directly or indirectly participate in the purchase of surplus property if they are responsible for surplus declarations, accepting offers, or are assigned to the surplus program within the Procurement Division. In addition, members of the Board, the County Executive Officer, and County Counsel shall not directly or indirectly participate in the purchase of surplus property.

- Title is included, but registration may not be current. The buyer is responsible for verifying registration status and paying any fees.
- The buyer is responsible for all motor vehicle registration requirements and costs in their jurisdiction.

Payment must be received within five (5) business days of the auction's end, and items must be picked up within ten (10) business days unless other arrangements have been explicitly made between the buyer and seller. Items that are paid for but not picked up within the given timeframe will be resold. We do not offer refunds, credits, or exchanges.
Nevada County may require a bid deposit to ensure fairness to all buyers.
PayMac handles all payments for Nevada County.
Acceptable forms of payment are: Wire Transfer or Credit Card.
NO CASH, CHECKS, OR MONEY ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED!
Payment for an awarded item must be received within five (5) business days after notice of award.
Nevada County will charge the applicable sales tax. The tax rate will be calculated at the time of bidding. When sales tax is included, the buyer shall add and include the sales tax amount when making payment.
A Buyers Premium of 10.5% will be added to the final sale price with a $1 minimum charge per auction for payment collections.
All sales are final. Public Surplus will notify buyer of receipt of payment via email.
The successful bidder will be responsible for removal or pick-up of item(s) from the agency's premises. Removal must occur within ten (10) business days after notification of award of the winning bid. The notice of award, the payment receipt, and personal identification must be presented at the time of pick-up, or Nevada County will not release the item to you.
